Fall allergies and their control

Control fall allergies with natural remedies

(NaturalNews) Although many people associate allergy season with the onset of spring, fall can also wreak havoc with allergy sufferers. This year, instead of suffering under mounds of tissues or resorting to over-the-counter or even worse yet, prescribed medications or allergy shots, discover the relief that natural remedies can bring.

What is an allergy?

An allergy occurs when an individual breathes in certain triggers (such as pollen). The body sees this as a foreign invader, much like a bacteria or virus, and sends out its defenses, releasing antibodies to attack these allergens. This leads to the release of chemicals (histamines) which result in a runny nose, sneezing, watering eyes, inflammation and congestion.

We generally don't consider allergies to be as serious an issue as an infection. However, a severe allergy can result in infection. A prolonged or severe allergy can block sinus drainage sites leading to a sinus infection. Congestion can also drain to the chest, causing respiratory infections that can result in asthma or even pneumonia. A primary allergy cause is an impaired immune system due to toxic overload.

Fall allergy triggers

During both spring and fall, pollen is a common allergy trigger. Male plants that begin to pollinate during August, often continue this process into the fall season. The biggest offender is ragweed. A great number of people allergic to spring pollen are also allergic to ragweed. Moreover, the wind can carry ragweed pollen for hundreds of miles, so this offender may not necessarily come from your own back yard.

Another offender not to be overlooked is mold. Mold spores can easily become airborne, putting us at risk. Mold grows in damp areas, indoors and outdoors. A common place for mold growth is in those leaves that fall from trees during this season. Piles of damp leaves are perfect breeding grounds for mold.

Dust mites are another danger. Although dust mites are mostly present during humid summer months, they can be stirred up and become airborne when the furnace is first used on a cool fall night.

In certain parts of the country, fall allergens can also include goldenrod, curly dock, lamb's quarters, pigweed, sheep sorrel, and sagebrush.

Ways to control allergens

*Avoid contact with allergens as much as possible. Keep your house well ventilated, making sure that your filtration system is up to date.

*Rake those fallen leaves in your back yard in a timely manner.

*A natural diet containing antioxidants and omega-3 essential fatty acids will help to detox the body, thereby strengthening the immune system.

*Many people find significant allergy relief by consuming local, raw, organic honey.

Various nutrients, herbs and other supplements can support your immune system, minimizing or eliminating allergy attacks

*Colloidal silver provides immune support to the body, lessening or eliminating allergic reaction. It is also instrumental in preventing infections that can occur with prolonged or severe allergies.

*Butterbur taken four times a day is as effective as over-the-counter medications, without any adverse side effects.

*Quercetin stabilizes cells and prevents the release of histamines.

*Omega-3 fatty acids. People who eat a high content of Omega-3 fatty acids are more likely to resist allergy symptoms.

*Probiotics helps support the body's natural terrain and strengthens the immune system.

*Cayenne, ginger, onions, and garlic are effective allergy treatments.

*Use stinging nettle leaf at the first sign of an allergy.

*Fortify your body with vitamins C and E to strengthen your immune system.

Lastly, keep your body hydrated with plenty of water. It is important to replace those fluids that are being expelled from the body.

IV Vitamin C and Cancer

IV vitamin C achieves clinical success with prostate and breast cancer

(NaturalNews) IV (intravenous) vitamin C therapy has already been clinically proven to markedly improve quality of life for cancer patients, but a new landmark study has shown for the first time it can reduce inflammation and tumor markers in prostate cancer and breast cancer patients. The science behind IV vitamin C as a cancer therapy is now advancing faster than ever before, with six clinical trials currently underway worldwide, including colorectal, prostate, pancreatic and other cancers.

Dual role of IV vitamin C for cancer - Cytotoxicity and inflammation

In lab studies, high-dose vitamin C has proven to be potently cytotoxic to a wide variety of cancer cell lines as well as to boost the cytotoxicity of several common chemotherapy drugs. This has been confirmed in animal studies, where IV vitamin C decreases the growth rates of liver, ovarian, pancreatic, and glioblastoma tumors with dosages easily achievable in humans. But beyond directly poisoning cancer cells, there is another role for vitamin C to play in treating cancer: the reduction of inflammation.

Recent research has shown that greater inflammation in cancer patients is associated with poor prognosis. This may be because key features of the inflammatory environment (infiltrating leucocytes, pro-inflammatory cytokine build-up, tissue remodeling and angiogenesis) may actually facilitate cancer development. With this in mind, one of the leading alternative medicine clinics in the USA designed a trial to test the ability of IV vitamin C to reduce key inflammation markers as well as tumor markers in patients with prostate, breast and other cancers. This trial included 45 patients aged 47-85, with an average age of 68. The treatments included vitamin C infusions of 25 to 50 grams, up to three times per week. The median follow-up on patients was 7.2 years (maximum of 18 years). It should be noted that most patients had already been treated by standard therapies. The total number of vitamin C infusions given to any one patient ranged from 1 up to 102.

Inflammation markers reduced in 76 percent of cancer patients

IV vitamin C therapy was successful in reducing C Reactive Protein (CRP) levels in 76 percent of all patients in the trial. This is significant, as CRP is a well-established marker for inflammation. By the end of the trial, the average patient saw a drop in CRP levels of 80 percent (for patients who started the trials with above-normal CRP levels). In addition, for a more detailed picture, serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines were measured for 11 patients. Of these 11 patients, all saw large reductions in these cytokines after their treatments.

Some important trends emerged from the trial. First, patients who had more IV vitamin C treatments tended to have a better response. Second, patients who began the therapy at an earlier stage of their disease had better response compared to those with more aggressive, metastatic cancer. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, patients who saw reductions in inflammation markers usually also saw reductions in tumor markers - especially for breast and prostate cancer.

Tumor markers decreased for most prostate cancer and breast cancer patients

Most impressive with this trial was that PSA levels decreased in 77 percent of prostate cancer patients while 73 percent of breast cancer patients saw decreases in CA27.29/CA15.3 (cancer antigen) and/or CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) after their treatments.

This trial gives powerful new evidence of the benefits of IV vitamin C therapy for cancer - a therapy which has few side-effects, a well-established safety profile and which is far cheaper than conventional treatments. The science of vitamin C

The science of vitamin C - The evidence of its beneficial effects on health is undeniable

(NaturalNews) Among all supplemental vitamins, vitamin C may be the most controversial. The scientist most responsible for bringing vitamin C's benefits to the public, Linus Pauling, has been vilified in an attempt to kill the messenger and marginalize the message. But proof of vitamin C efficacy continues despite the medical mafia's suppressive efforts.

The November 24, 2011 Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine newsletter discussed a study referenced in PubMed that linked high blood levels of vitamin C with lower incidence of heart failure, while lower serum levels of vitamin C were connected to higher death rates. (1) The study summary abstract is here (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21835284).

If you peeked at the report summary, you'll have noticed that the study was based on determining if high vegetable and fruit consumption is beneficial for heart health. Most of us know this already, but the bio-marker used in the study was vitamin C serum blood levels.

Orthomolecular medicine relies on the application of high dose supplements to treat both mental and physical disease. High doses are often rendered by injection or IV for critical situations, such as the one that rescued a New Zealand farmer from his near death coma (http://www.naturalnews.com/030599_vitamin_C_mega_dose.html).

In 2007, the CDC reported over 600,000 deaths from heart disease. The Orthomolecular.org newsletter examines this study with the angle that supplementing with inexpensive vitamin C would increase your vitamin C blood levels safely.

According to the newsletter, each 20 micromole/liter (μmol/L) of vitamin C in the blood reduced the heart failure death rate by nine percent. It may take only 500 mgs of vitamin C to achieve 80 micromoles/liter.

Since vitamin C is not produced by the human body, and absorption rates vary among individuals, it's apparent that taking more even more vitamin C is a good heart health investment.

Some vitamin C facts and fiction

Orthomolecular MDs are amazed at the prevailing vitamin C misinformation. The recommended dosage amounts (RDA) listed for vitamin C are just enough to prevent scurvy, at best. But for optimum health the dosages should be much higher. (2)

Those sites and reports that are sanctioned by the medical mafia recommend staying below 2000 mgs of C daily to avoid diarrhea. But the threshold of vitamin C maximum intake is determined by when diarrhea begins. And that varies from individual to individual.

One of the ten websites that spread vitamin C misinformation also warns of cancer from too much vitamin C. This Reuters Health report has been rebutted by Science magazine, but continues to be spread around. (3)

All vitamin C, regardless of origin, is the same molecule known as ascorbic acid. Whether from a natural source or synthetic, most experts consider the results to be the same. Large dosages should be taken in smaller amounts throughout the day to maintain maximum blood levels. (4)

Mega dose vitamin C by IV or injection for critical conditions is based in ascorbate powder, which buffers the ascorbic acid's acidity. Mega-dose vitamin C transforms the antioxidant to oxygenate cells. Thus it can be used to treat even cancer. Straight ascorbic acid is too severe to be rendered by injection or IV. (5) Ascorbate forms of oral vitamin C supplements are good for people with sensitive stomachs also.
